For sale: Poland

For many centuries, Poland has produced some of the finest pottery and jewelry, experts say.

Baltic Treasures, a Saginaw store that sells Polish-made items, wants to show mid-Michigan just what the Eastern European country has to offer.

Saginaw attorney Barbara A. Klimaszewski, her sister, Christine M. Klimaszewski, and their partner, Lorna L. Nolan, operate the store at 116 N. Michigan.

he store carries a variety of items, including wooden boxes and chess sets, hand-painted Easter eggs and a large selection of Boleslawiec pottery.

Prices range from $10 to a few hundred dollars.

Artists decorate this pottery by hand and fire it to more than 2,000 degrees, resulting in pieces that are beautiful and functional, Barbara Klimaszewski said.

The pottery is safe for use in ovens, microwaves and dishwashers.

"Since it's a natural no stick service, it's a pleasure to work with, Klimaszewski said.

Artists who designed them have signed some of the patterns, she said.

"Everything here is from Poland," Klimaszewski said. "This is the biggest selection of pottery from Poland in the area."
