Polish president nominates new head of the National Bank of Poland

Sławomir Skrzypek, acting president of a major Polish bank, has been nominated by the Polish president to be the next head of the National Bank of Poland.

42-year-old Skrzypek has an MBA with a background in public administration and auditing. He had no background in monetary policy or banking before his appointment to the board of the state-dominated Bank PKO BP in December 2005.

He already served under president Lech Kaczynski at the Main Auditing Chamber in the mid-1990s and at Warsaw city hall from 2002-2005 during Kaczynski's term as mayor.

The nomination comes after economist Jan Sulmicki withdrew his candidacy in mid-December for “family reasons”.

If confirmed by parliament, Skrzypek will succeed Leszek Balcerowicz whose six-year term expires opolskieradio.pl
