City of Rzeszow, Poland Reduces Telecommunications Costs By 60% by Migrating to a Broadband Wireless Network

Cambridge Broadband Limited and its system integrator partner VSAT have successfully deployed an extensive broadband wireless network in the city of Rzeszow, Poland. The Rzeszow Metropolitan Area Network (ResMAN) network uses VectaStar to provide broadband access services to over 6,000 IP customers and 92 city administration offices and schools, as well as providing backhaul for 47 WiFi hotspots, with free Internet for citizens, and a video surveillance system for security at bus and train terminals across the city.

Mr. Leslaw Bandur, Director of IT for the City of Rzeszow, states, "This successful tender award to Cambridge and their deployment of our city-wide ResMAN network is a tribute to the great partnership between the City of Rzeszow, Cambridge Broadband, and VSAT. This major project highlights the wide applicability of the advanced, extremely efficient VectaStar technology, as it is used both for access and for backhaul applications like professional VoIP telephony, enabling us to successfully implement our visionary plans for Rzeszow. Furthermore, by deploying ResMAN with VectaStar, our city telecommunication operating costs have been reduced by more than 60% compared to our traditional service provider."

Bjorn Krylander, Chief Executive Officer of Cambridge Broadband, comments, "Cambridge is pleased to have been selected by the City of Rzeszow to extend broadband access to the citizens of Rzeszow. The VectaStar broadband wireless multipoint access and transport technology reaffirms Cambridge's commitment to our continuing technology development program in meeting the growing service needs of the City of Rzeszow's administration, its schools, and its citizens' demand for current and future broadband services."

Gene Sieczko, VP Sales-Central & Eastern Europe at Cambridge Broadband, adds: "With our Polish partner and systems integrator VSAT, we have deployed a state of the art broadband infrastructure platform serving the needs of both the Rzeszow citizens and the City Administration. As well as successfully competing against alternative broadband technologies on cost, coverage and capacity, VectaStar enabled the City of Rzeszow to deploy a comprehensive broadband service network more rapidly than with alternative technologies."

Maciej Ecksten, Vice President of VSAT, stated, "VSAT is pleased to be the system integrator for Cambridge Broadband in such a large scale and technically demanding project. Our role is to provide the engineering and technical support for the VectaStar infrastructure throughout its deployment and use in its wide range of applications."

The ResMAN network began operation in August 2006 and equipment deployment is continuing throughout 2007 and 2008.
