Construction growth in Poland versus other European Union countries

The new member states (EU-10) have been recording high rates of growth in construction. In 2005 the highest growth was noted by Estonia (19.5 per cent). Hungary, Latvia, Slovakia, Malta and Lithuania recorded increases in the construction volume ranging from 11 per cent to 17 per cent. Poland, with a construction growth of 7.4 per cent, ranked eighth in 2005 in the EU-25. The old member states (EU-15) recorded lower growth rates in construction: from 1.5 per cent in Italy to 4.3 per cent in Denmark. One exception was Ireland with growth of 7.7 per cent. In several countries (Germany, Portugal, Belgium and the United Kingdom), construction volumes declined in 2005. [...]
