HELSINKI, Finland: Finnish utility Fortum Corp. said Thursday it is investing €95 million (US$125 million) in a new heat and power plant expected to be online by the end of 2009.
The plant, in the southern city of Czestochowa, will use coal and biomass as fuels. Production capacity will be some 120 megawatts of heat and 64 megawatts of electricity, Fortum said.
Fortum Czestochowa S.A., one of four Fortum companies in Poland, will be responsible for operating the new plant.
Fortum, based in Espoo near the Finnish capital, is the second-largest power company in the Nordic region. It employs 9,000 people and is 51 percent owned by the Finnish government.
